Do violent video games contribute to youth violence?

  1. Examine some evidence. The following websites express both pro and con arguments. Pick one side (it doesn't have to be what you actually believe) and identify three pieces of evidence you find most convincing that support the chosen position.
As you read, pay attention to which arguments use the word "violent" and which use the word "aggressive" in describing youth behavior. Do these words mean the same thing?
  1. Explain some data. Choose one of the graphs or images on the following site. Explain what the graph is saying. Describe how the graph might be used to support either a pro or con argument, both, or neither.
  2. Make a short (2 minute) recording of yourself presenting the evidence you find most convincing to support either a pro or con position.
  3. Watch a video of a classmate, then make your own video, presenting a counterargument. Even if you agree with your classmate's position, pretend to take the opposing view. Remember to respond to the specific evidence presented by your classmate.
Alternatives to making a video could include writing a script dialogue or designing a poster.
